On Sunday two of our group had cleaned up the area at ‘Gas Works Corner’ where we have created a community orchard and veg / fruit plot for the locals. Other group members also weeded on Boroughgate , Manchester Square and Walkergate. Earlier in the day we sprayed weed killer on Bridge Street, Manor Square, Boroughgate, Wesley Street, Courthouse Street, Bay Horse Court, Bondgate, Crossgate, Mercury Row, Newmarket and at the Bus Station.
One of our members spent a sunny afternoon adding some new plants to the Nectar Bed in Wharfefmeadows Park. The plants were ordered earlier in the year but had just arrived this week. The Nectar bed was given a good tidy-up and water as well and our member was pleased to receive several very positive comments from passers-by.

A couple of members of the group have again been back to the Whartons School where through recent talks with the school and Friends of the Earth it was decided that they would like to create two wildflower meadows within the school grounds. Over the past few months a plan was drawn up, seeds aquired and the land prepared. Finally today some of the children from the school enjoyed a sunny session of sowing the seeds and stamping the ground to settle them in assisted by our members. Otley in Bloom shared the costs of the groundworks with the school PTA and will continue to monitor the site.

Members of the team have been out and about over the last week or so working on the town’s gateways. The grass surrounding the Pool Road Gateway was cut the planting was tidied up and given a good watering. Likewise the Leeds Road Gateway was also tidied, planted up and watered.
