Fire station recycled

To celebrate the latest Tour de Yorkshire we thought we should replace the willow bikes, that had survived for 5 years, with some re-cycled ones. Six of us tidied up …

we tried the three bikes in different positions …

the fire station gave us a cuppa …

we planted up the bike baskets …

and we managed to do all this and keep dry.

Willow bicycles

Three willow bicycles, with riders, have been installed at the Fire Station, just in time for the Tour de Yorkshire tomorrow.  They are made by Dragon Willow, and are the result of a collaboration between Otley in Bloom, Otley Fire and Rescue, Otley Lions and Dragon Willow, celebrating Lizzie Armitstead, the reigning World, Commonwealth and National road race champion.

Enjoy the races tomorrow!

The yellow bikes are moving on

The yellow bikes with flowers have been a big hit locally and nearly all have now found new homes. Some will still be seen around Otley – one will remain in a central spot as an Otley in Bloom ‘noticeboard’. One is being given as an anniversary present, one is being adopted by a Dutch bike enthusiast and one will travel Wakefield way for a September flower festival. Donations have been truly generous, to help keep Otley a well loved and cared for place to live and work. Thank you to everyone who has made this possible.

There are still a few yellow bikes waiting for adoption. If you are interested in one, please contact Katie at Courtyard Planters on Westgate (01943 462390).
