Tour de France display

We’ve been busy sorting out some yellow bikes for Otley in Bloom’s Tour de France display.  Ian and Ernie have done a lot of work on cleaning and painting them, and last Sunday a few more Otley in Bloom members went to see what had been going on and to help with a bit of cleaning.  Many thanks to Beks (in Beks Arcade in Kirkgate) for donating the yellow paint.

There will be flowers involved too, of course.  More will be revealed nearer the date.

Christmas tree festival

On Tuesday 10 December a group of Otley in Bloom members gathered at Otley Parish Church to decorate a Christmas Tree for the Church Christmas Tree Festival.
We placed a decorated watering can as a receptacle for collecting coins from the public.  The theme for this year’s event is The Tour de France and the decorations included yellow bicycle wheels made from curtain rings and some fabulous mini yellow jerseys made by Margaret.  Charlotte, Sue, Margaret and Carole decorated the tree and were watched by David and Maria taking pictures.

Yorkshire in Bloom summer judging

The group hosted the YIB summer judging today with a tour round the town’s floral highlights. They were joined by the Town Mayor Councillor Pam Gill, and also Councillor Kevin Cooney, and the tour included visits to the new Nectar Bed and the wildflower meadow at the Whartons school. Everyone enjoyed the tour on a very sunny morning and it finished with lunch laid on by the group with help from Waitrose.
